Nevermind "Team Coco".

I never understood how Conan became all that well-liked or sympathetic a character -- "I'm with CoCo" , just because he got replaced because he couldn't bring in the ratings. But Team Charlie? That, at least, I can understand... (though Jon Cryer is a better actor, imo, funnier in a physical sense.)

You know what I just don't get, though? All the previews for "How I Met Your Mother" featuring Doogie grown (Neil Patrick Harris). He's essentially playing Jack Tripper's (played by the late John Ritter) sleazy neighbor: leisure suit Larry. Which was pretty funny, in a shocking way, back in the late 70s.

But Doogie seriously spends every episode seducing the ladies? Sorry, I just don't buy that. Misogynist to the hilt, in a way Charlie Parker just is not. Plus, in these more honest times? C'mon -- nobody's buying that act, are they? I'm convinced the screenwriters will have "Barney" come out to his friends in the final episode... "The reason I made such a game of bedding the ladies? Couldn't admit it before, overcompensating, but yup, I'm gay." The character is just not that convincing, to this middle aged woman, at least. Maybe the youngsters believe the character is straight, and just messing around alot, scoring points?

Charlie Sheen, in real life way, makes that seem believable in the character he plays; Neil Patrick Harris does not.** And I don't think it's just me. Who exactly watches that show -- HIMYM, anyway?

Just askin'.

* That whole campaign seemed to me just farce, owing more to dislike of the way Jay Leno played his cards. Otherwise, wouldn't people have watched in the first place?

** Not saying he's not a decent actor, making the transition from child actor to adult. But I don't think I'd buy him in that role, even if he hadn't come out. (Do straight men like that routinely get laid at real-life bars? Is it a money thing? Even neighbor Larry in Three's Company seemed more believable and those were the pre-AIDS days. Short of assuming that all young women today are utterly stupid -- which is the whole premise of his scores it seems in the previews, what am I missing?)
