So, "Peruse" is an ANTONYM of "Skim"...

and not a synonym??
Here I always thought it meant, to skim rapidly, to take in a bit more than skimming, but not to study intensely... (ie/ to peruse the scenery out a train window.  Yeah, you see it, it's there but gone quickly.)

Not so, today I learned.
I blame the sound for my mistaken verbiage... "I cruise. You cruise. When we read, we peruse..."

Who knew it was such a slow word?

UPDATE:  Well, that's what I get for stopping at the first online definition, it seems.

But don't a and b here seem contradictory? And 2, in itself? (to read in an attentive OR leisurely manner?  hmm.  Peruse goes both ways like that?)

Definition of peruse

1a : to examine or consider with attention and in detail : study

b : to look over or through in a casual or cursory manner

2 : read especially : to read over in an attentive or leisurely manner
