| After many months at sea, Christopher Columbus kisses the ground of the New World. Columbus' daring voyages and the bravery of him and his men in undertaking them despite hardships can inspire active students today. Through his journeys, Columbus expanded the boundaries of the Old Country (Europe) and over time brought many newcomers to these shores, which had also been explored and sparsely settled in some areas by native tribes. This year in 5th grade, students, we're going to learn about a lot of the men and women who came before us to help build this country, just as one day, schoolchildren will look to the people of our days and ask what daring actions of bravery we took to help our country build and grow. Open those fresh textbooks and strap on your seatbelts, adjust your facemasks for reading and open your eyes because in American History this year, it's gonna be one heck of a ride! |
