Bogging the troops down in Afghanistan only meant we lost track of Bin Laden for all those years when he was camping in next-door Pakistan. A simple "kill one man" mission turned into a 20-year occupation. 

American intelligence services were exposed for what they are (politicized institutions, primarily) and we repeated the mistakes of other nations who earlier tried to conquer Afghanistan...
