Por un saludable y prospero ano nuevo! *

Happy new year to us all!
Make your own luck.

and inspiring the best in us
This year, I say to me: go get it -- what all your hard work over the years deserves...

So oftentimes it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key... (*be free!)
As for me, I'm already gone. And I'm feelin' strong! I will sing this victory song: Woohoohoo... Woohoohoo!  ~Eagles

Let's see... WNBA All-Star game in Las Vegas this summer. Gotta get a new job first, something more in my field. Done with working at Walgreens for the season -- we got robbed last week, a woman came in with a note saying she had a gun and asking for the register cash... I was telling management for weeks:**  they're gonna come for the cash in time, you gotta know that? They've been shoplifting brazenly, look you in the eye even in the daytime, and just walk out the door with bags loaded or large detergent bottles in hand, anything not already locked up... Lot of cash in our drawers every night from people loading money onto their debit cards. (Customers pull it from the secure ATM feet away from the registers, wait in line, pass the bills over to us cashiers where we just put it in our unsecured drawers...)  No more risk for me. Not dying for Walgreens corporate shareholders...
---------
** You know what the manager honestly told me, twice? Reprimanded me for, even? "Keep the $20s under the drawer!" I thought she cared more about keeping the theft amount down, if they just reached over and scooped out the drawer... No. She honestly thought criminals wouldn't think we had a lot of cash in there, if they couldn't see a stack of "big" bills... Like, don't you think customers in line behind people re-loading up to $500 on their debit cards see the money being transferred to us, as they wait and watch us check the $100 and $50 bills and process the transaction??  I don't feel any better working with ignorance than working with sheer disrespect for other people's lives... Yup, I deserve better than that.  After the Colorado Springs then WalMart killings in mid-November -- nevermind getting sick with another respiratory bug from selling Covid tests and OTC cough products to people sick all season  (my chest x-rays are clear), I knew my days working there were limited...

Just, time for me to make a change.  If you don't value your own life, who will?  If you don't control your own work life, who does?  They'll exploit you in a lot of workplaces, if you let them... "Ah, but don't you let them." ~James Taylor
