"Do Unto Others as You'd Have Done to You"

Perhaps when you are no longer the BigPlayer on the worlds "block", it's hard to be neutral and look at things from a more rational perspective.

That's why listening to other voices, and considering other viewpoints, are so important.  We need to "check" those in power especially, who don't see our own blindspots until it is too late.  Like what happened when so many were championing the Bush wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which -- can we all admit now? -- were not in the world's best interests, and took an awful toll in terms of the loss of civilian lives, trauma and mental illness to our own military members who belatedly realized they were tasked with carrying out an unachievable mission, and of course, the years of economic disaster here at home that followed in the wars' wake.
