"I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing?"
or, Re-Imagining a Foreign Utopia (on the Taxpayers Dime).*
Secretary of State Clinton touts "smart power" and is recruiting a new singing force to serve as America's Policeman Protector of the World (or at least poor Israel in the MiddleEast) role:
"I think this is smart power, where it is not just brute force, it is not just unilateralism," she said. "It is being smart enough to say you know what we want a bunch of people singing out of the same hymn book and we want them singing a song of universal freedom, human rights, democracy, everything that we have stood for and pioneered over 235 years."
...
Clinton said Libya was a study in the use of "strategic patience," whereby the United States resisted the impulse for immediate intervention and instead helped to build support for the country's nascent opposition, which the U.S. now recognizes as Libya's legitimate government.
Silly me. I thought it was for the Libyan people to determine who they recognize as Libya's legitimate government. Obviously the poor dears can't get there themselves, without our singing from the hymn books and teaching them our own civilized *incoming!* ways of "collaborative" war.
("She fights wars, just like a woman ... and she justifies just like a little girl.")*
She said the unprecedented NATO-Arab alliance protecting civilians on the ground was a key result of the tactics of smart power.
"This is exactly the kind of world that I want to see, where it's not just the United States and everybody is standing on the sidelines while we bear the costs," she said.
In Syria, Clinton said Washington had adopted a similar stance. The administration has imposed sanctions to protest a ruthless crackdown on reformers but has thus far resisted calls to make an explicit demand for President Bashar Assad to step down, something it did with Gadhafi.
Omg, really? "I'd like to teach the world to sing" bomb-dropping foreign policy, when the domestic economy continues to suffer?
Really, what are these people smoking? Retire already, Mrs. Clinton. If you're too dumb to learn from your mistakes, you're too dumb to continue on in the job... pretty blonde hair and all.
At least Mr. Romney's religion understands, when you have those impulses, it's time to go on a foreign mission and practice your psalm-singing religion privately, not with(out) the backing of American taxpayers, whose fiscal support is important when the singing stops and military force is really needed to prevent atrocities, and actually, win these wars we've unwisely committed ourselves to.
If you didn't like what GWB did with our military, why pretend that Team Obama, led by an obviously-out-of-her-league Secretary Clinton is wreaking peace and victory across the globe? Really, the media is so busy worrying about Romney's family vacation trips that they're going to swallow this message?
-------------
* Much like a pre-Title IX woman who earned diversity points just for being a working woman in the field and never having to compete honestly under the established rules of the game, Mrs. Clinton doesn't seem to recognize losing, or know how to deal with it other than denial. Dial down the aspirations a bit, and get more realistic, honey?
I wonder if her own failed marraige and political aspirations have just been re-channeled into re-making all the dark people with their own cultures in our own (blonde!) democratic Westernized images?
Sadly, she won't be the first to decide it's easier to work on "helping" others than to re-invent herself. (and no, I don't think being elected to the Senate, and then to be invited to serve in the Obama administration is exactly the career challenge she envisioned.)
Hence the "I can do you one better!" (half-assed) invasion of Libya, which I see as aping the maneuvers of President George W. Bush. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, eh? *pounding her chest and preening for the cameras*
I guess we should be grateful for the honesty at least. The mission was originally touted as solely a humanitarian one, "essential for saving people's lives, people who otherwise would undoubtedly be slaughtered by their madman leader."
Now, much like GWB, America under Clinton/Obama leadership is aiming to carry on the torch of enlightening/remaking the world through the embrace of our own obviously superior values, "we want them singing a song of universal freedom, human rights, democracy, everything that we have stood for and pioneered over 235 years."
And if you're not singing on-key, dammit, we've got a little firepower for you right here, Scarecrow!
It's not a pretty sight, really.
