Why Israel is Operating on Borrowed Time...

in term of Unconditional Support from the United States:








Like most Americans, I could not tell you if this child is a Jew or an Arab. Dark hair, doe eyes, full lips, slight build... he just seems like a kid to me.

Sadly, there are reports coming out of East Jerusalem now that this dead boy might be gay. That his family might have arranged for him to be killed -- his body burned -- as an honor killing.

Bull roar.

Sadly, the choice of victim might come back to haunt the extremists. For so long, Americans have been told we are Israel's prime ally because Israel is the only functioning democracy in the region.

But the more we see... collective punishments, mass arrests without trials, property destruction without trial and with no evidence trying the family members to the crime, the thirst among the land-grabbers for bloody vengeance... the more Americans do not want their money going to build such a state.

Israeli authorities would not even permit your father to view your dead body, before they hustled it off for an Israeli autoposy. Clearly, your death was planned, even if the three kidnapped and killed Jewish students were picked up as a crime of opportunity (which I believe) by those acting independently on the spur of the moment.

Today in Israel,
there are those celebrating -- out of sight -- the death of this child and calling for more, though that likely will not be reported by Jodi Rodoren or the New York Times. Instead, they will show us the young Palestinian men, so many living in poverty in East Jerusalem and elsewhere, reduced to using the weapons they have, not being supplied by American taxpayers: sticks and stones.

The Biblical David is now Goliath State, and if you had simply shown me the photo of the dead child above, I might have guessed he is a David of today.

Here in America, we don't go by who's your Daddy, or what's your nationality, or where you live. I can't imagine -- if Israel continues on this tiered road of "democracy"-- that young Americans will continue to elect leaders who blindly support Israel's policies of inequality, violence and death.

ADDED: If you knew -- or were educated by -- wise Jews of old, you probably would not recognize this more muscular, almost steroided-up version of Judaism practiced by the advantaged young Israelis of today:

The leader of one of the world's biggest Jewish youth movements has refused to apologise for a Facebook post which appears to call for Israelis to take the foreskins of 300 Palestinians as retribution for the killing of three Israeli teenagers. According to screengrabs of his Facebook wall, Noam Perel, the secretary general of Bnei Akiva, called for the biblical retribution, the same violence King David meted out to the Philistines in the Old Testament as a way to win his bride Michal from her father Saul.

It's almost as if these people have lost faith with their birthright, and seek to kill their way into G-d's everlasting favor. Perhaps strong American practicing Jews like David Brooks could shed some light on the disconnect between those who still urge faith in Moses' tablets, and this mighty new breed rewriting the book.
