Instead of "Packed Churches"...

what about Easter Sunday services outside, with place markers in open ground designating where worshippers should stand/sit, respecting the 6-foot social distancing rules? The weather will be warmer on April 12; many denominations have outdoors activities that week already, like outside fires, passion plays, and sunrise services.

They cannot cancel Easter any more than they could cancel Spring or St. Patrick's Day because the celebrations live in our hearts. And if we start planning now in our parishes with other people, there are ways to gather together in the coming weeks that respect the rules, keep safe those who choose to participate, and keep alive holy family traditions that have kept societies strong for decades.

(Looser "kinship" networks tend to be more government dependent, less tightly woven, and historically more likely to come apart when the legal and moral commitments and traditions are not there. If everybody's in your "family", you don't really have a family: you have a surrogate network that is ever changing over time...)
