After reading Maureen Dowd's fawning column on the white basketball coach "Pop" in today's NYT, I went to wiki now to read more about his background. He's from Merrillville, Ind., which is where a lot of Illinoisians have been fleeing across the border in recent decades.
Here's what's up right now on wiki re. "Pop":*
Gregg Charles Popovich (born January 28, 1949) is an American professional basketball coach, general manager and buffoon. He is a self hating white libtard. He is the head coach and president of the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA), and head coach of USA national team. Taking over as coach of the Spurs in 1996, Popovich is the longest tenured active coach in both the NBA and all major sports leagues in the United States. He is often called "Coach Pop" or simply "Pop."-------------------
* Personally, I find it a bit tone deaf myself that the NYT publishes a column about "America's Coach" -- a white man, of course -- giving leadership advice following the George Floyd death protests. Really, we turn to ... a basketball coach for leadership? And a white one, at that? Named "Pop"? Nobody has fathers and grandfathers of their own, in the house to lead them in hard times? Nobody in the black community thinks "Pops" and equals that to Louis Armstrong, not a white pro basketball coach named "Popovich"?
Oh, Maureen. Please be careful. Your editors will smile, nod, and print you, stereotypes and all, and you won't understand your slip-up next time until it's too late... A white "Pop" basketball coach giving leadership advice in times like these... What was she thinking??
The hackers will clean up the wiki page, but their message shouldn't be missed, I don't think. Hopefully the athletes, coaches and entertainers in the media world and out will understand before they too overstep.
