The city had been besieged by the virus. But New Yorkers who were dutifully shutting themselves in behind doors have now turned out by the tens of thousands to be heard.

You hate to see force, power and might triumph over reason, but... let's just hope those in the amassing crowds are not the types that work, or visit, their elders in nursing home care...

One the stimulus checks run out at the end of July, I expect things will get worse for awhile with nobody funding this nonsense... and then reality to kick in and really crack down.  Assuming the blue jurisdictions don't tire of the economic and physical damage and send in the guard troops and the police before then.  End of July is a long-time away, really, but with no concrete demands from these protestors, and the rioters profiting handsomely come nighttime, I don't expect this "movement" to burn itself out naturally any time soon...

School will be in session in the fall though.

Nobody much seems to fear social mixing now, and everybody is going to have fresh duds to sport and will want a place to show off the new threads.  I think, that's kind of the roles of schools in much of the country now -- a place for parents to have the children watched, while they socially mingle and compare consumer goods...
