Julia Sugerbaker's First Test Will Come This Winter
The rest of the nation locked down -- some regions, very prematurely -- under New York City's pandemic timeline last year. Their emergency necessitated lockdowns nationwide, even in areas that would not see the virus peak locally until months later. We all did this, we were told, to protect the people packed into the cities, on the coasts, where the virus had already landed from abroad...
This winter, the highly contagious delta variant is expected to rage in indoors air, affecting younger unvaccinated people more strongly than those who contracted the original strain of the virus.
Future Gov. Hochel tells the city, state, and the nation, she is prepared. Her test will come early. May the odds be ever in New York's favor... I hope she and Mayor Adams will work together to contain the delta strain that might spread, like the packed bear party on the Cod. Expect children to be hospitalized, schools to be closed, and new strains to develop.
She says she is prepared: think they're working on pandemic response still, or counting on Gov. Cuomo's past leadership with the original strain, and the vaccine rollout, to see the state through? I hope she is not a laurels rester lady, into symbolism and cheerleading, but incapable of really leading people. And you know what? Nobody gives a damn that she lived in a trailer park as a kid before he dad got into IT. This is no time for narrative historics.
