Joe Biden's True Legacy...
It won't be ending the Afghanistan war. It will be the southern invasion of the United States by the global poor.*
Beyond the 60,000 Haitians expected in the coming weeks, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is concerned up to 400,000 could be encountered illegally crossing this month if border protocols are lifted, NBC reported .
The 400,000 figure would be roughly 10 times higher than the average month over the past decade and far beyond the 78,000 in January when President Joe Biden took office.
Biden's legacy will be as the man who killed any shot at comprehensive immigration reform in the first half of the 21st Century in the United States.
For every body that crosses now, it seems less and less likely that moderate, conservative, and -- can we be honest, liberal voters too -- will support the idea of making citizens out of everyone that crosses. Othe immigrants who have submitted to the process, learned and earned their way in, passed tests and qualified family members legally, want to be distinguished from those who paid cartel prices to be shuttled on a multi-country journey that ends with an extended hand for help.
The Dreamers, the long-suffering and long-publicized group of children who were brought across the border illegally since President Reagan's last legal amnesty agreement, truly are being played as pawns. But for every baby body being brought in today, it becomes less and less likely that the country will want to keep out the welcome mat, instead of sending the a much overdue message of deterrence:
Don't come here this way.
You will not be rewarded with citizenship and second-tier workers in America get ground up fast. Gangs, sex traffickers and inhumane working conditions will welcome you before a growingly hostile-to-newcomers nation sets you a place at their tables. For God's sake, wait until you can properly process your way in.
As a politician, we know Joe Biden is not a strong leader, but a more moderate consensus-builder in his career prime. Not much of that on display of late.
Weak leaders are shaped by the circumstances, and enemies and allies alike can take advantage of the timing of America's internal incompetencies and divisions to advance their own agendas.
Are we going to talk about how we as American citizens and workers should be responding to the oncoming caravans approaching Texas before the next crisis hits? Or, more likely, will we just admit defeat, and accept that there will be no money for infrastructure, much less a child-credit tax that allows families to choose how to best invest in the upbringing of their own children -- paid care outside the home, or community-building by place-holding with greater local representation in person-to-person interactions closer to home? -- if we are intent on opening our own doors to the world's poor and encouraging people to bring their needs here rather than staying put themselves, and working to create a more rooted world of global communities for their own children.
Joe Biden's legacy... in years to come, undoing and removing from the interior of America those with only temporary protected status who will be admitted very soon because of poor planning defensively on our nation's part. If you though extracting America from Afghanistan was hard once the dependency set it, wait until the country begins to deport tens of thousands who have established homes and lives here. It will be done...
Some say, we would be a stronger nation as a whole if we developed a defensive southern border policy that can be enforced. leading to more humane outcomes for our brown- and black- brothers and sisters being misled into thinking that entry in America means access to the benefits of citizenship. That Dream is dying daily, as more and more are brought in in under such false promises.
Instead of crafting trillion-dollar spending bills in Congress, maybe they could divert some resources very soon -- along with active military and more National Guard call-ups -- into detering thousands more from undercutting immigration procedures that were not set up for mass numbers of human bodies to be processed and provided for upon crossing in.
Tough love. Don't send messages of false hope. Don't look away either, averting your eyes to what is coming and who is being lost in this national transition.
*God help us if, in their weakened political state, the Dems are led into another foreign war in the coming months against Iran, or China, or their proxies...
