No... Just No. These are MY ears too.

Don't "normalize" vulgar language.  Don't do it!

I can think of no better way to show your ignorance than to drop the F-word in casual conversation, in anger or in song.  Articles like this -- where the educated writer wants to appear cool and hep -- do the nation a disserve.   As the language deteriorates, behavior goes with it...

McWhorter might not have to live in the world he is encouraging (and is able to escape into his classical music and elite culture spaces), but the rest of us really have to live here.   My advice:  don't bother saying anything, it doesn't help.  When you hear the F-word being dropped, get away, out of earshot.  Especially if you have children with you...

When You Hear the F-Word, Try Picking Up More Than One Meaning


"I don't care what they say, I won't stay in a world so ug-lay!"  Walk away from those conversations and don't look back.  If they're tolerated in your workplace, start looking for a new job as fast as you can.  Things will deteriorate from there.
