"The Supreme Court Seems Awfully Nervous About Its Own Legitimacy"

by Jamelle Bouie in the NYT.  Lol.  Just...no.

Have no fear*, the intellectual thought leaders of our land are indeed in control, understand their jobs -- their role in three-legged American government setup of executive branch, legislative branch, and judicial branch.  These people have  backbone, Jamelle.  No way they're "awfully nervous" about their legitimacy.

More likely, they are just fearful of the price they -- or family members -- might pay for being strong minds in a society that thinks it is going to take down the true intellectual class.  Nope.

Let's go back to the sports scene:

What commenters like Bouie and so many others in the media are doing now is exactly what we see in youth sports when pampered parents don't get their ways:  they attack the people responsible for refereeing their children's games.

Blame your kids' coaches, blame Congress.  They are not teaching your children the longstanding rules of the game.  When your kid breaks the rules and gets whistled, that's not the refs fault.

If you don't like the rules as written, work within the league to change the Rulebook.  The Constitution is like the Rulebook.  You don't have to like how the best refs in the game enforce the rules, but you don't get to camp out in the parking lot after the games and make theats.

Go home, get better educated Mr. Bouie, and take a law degree.  It will open your eyes to what the laypeople miss in thinking the the top student in the class is also the most popular person elected to the Student Council, maybe because they are different, underrepresented, or have garnered a sympathy vote?

The top student in the class is honestly the one who studies the hardest, memorizes the rules, and is trained from the earliest ages to think like a pro.  You don't have to like the game, or even understand basic American civics about our branches or how the country must correct when the Court legislates from the bench, but you do need to respect the referees.

It's sad how now that we've got some women and ethnics up there, the Court is suddenly delegitimized, as if the team of refs as a whole are no longer in control of the game, and are "awfully nervous" about anything.  Sexist, racist, classist.  Own your prejudices, Mr. Bouie.  And work to better yourself so you can be a more legit player understanding the game more fully yourself before tossing your popcorn form the good seats.

*This is good advice to everyone in the days to come:  gays, Jews, immigrants, minorities, majority minorities, etc.  Have no fear.  Hold yourself upright, act honestly and ethically, and let the haters have their say.  Have no fear.  Rise up and carry yourself forward with the momentum you deserve.  They can't touch you if you're untouchable.  Honestly.
