An Aid Package That Invests in American Security Goals
By The Editorial Board (The editorial board is a group of opinion journalists whose views are informed by expertise, research, debate and certain longstanding values. It is separate from the newsroom.) [Added: ... and since there are no NYT journalists in Gaza covering first-hand what is really happening -- which "team" players are being genocided and sexually abused today, long past Oct. 7 -- there is no newroom voice for the editorial board members to read to form a more informed opionion.]
The Biden administration has asked Congress to approve a $105 billion military aid package, mostly to Israel and Ukraine, and lawmakers appear to be at an impasse over the border security measures included in it. It is essential that Congress overcome this opposition and approve it promptly, as an investment in America’s security goals.
The New York Times editorial board -- notoriously liberal on spending issues, women's issues, and pro-status quo in American economic and foreign-policy issues -- is calling for Congress to spend us into another war, while the American taxpayers through their representatives are speaking up to say, "Enough."
If Ukraine cannot win on all the defensive arms and billions we have sent them thus far, if they are having trouble recruiting enough Ukrainian soldiers to fight -- and win-- control over Donbas and the eastern territories of the Ukraine land, then America has done enough and should encourage a negotiated settlement. The war passion has ended for that fight after almost 2 years ... too many lives lost with sunflower seeds in their pockets that are producing enough new flowers to justify the fight...
As for Israel, something has shifted in this country.
No more will this ally's actions go unquestioned. We all know what was happening in Israel proper, the lack of respect for the Netanyahu administration before their guard was down and the Oct. 7 attacks -- and deadly defensive response happened.
People do not want their tax dollars spent to kill Palestinian children. The plan to cleanse Palestine of Palestinians will not work either. Enough of the population will remain, and enough international pressure will be applied that Israel will not re-occupy and re-settle those lands as their own. Never.
Nor will the West Bank be sacrificied for any AIPAC and US evangelical Biblical prophesies. The future demographics of teh United States ensures our country will never approve of supporting religious states, whether they are of Muslim, Jewish or Christian descent. The future is secular.
Israeli's, including the dual-citizenship Israeli-Americans need to influence the Netanyahu administration, not the AIPAC-owned members of Congress who must surely be retiring or recognizing which way the wind blows here... Americans will not let our Congressional leaders lie us into another foreign war which is not in our national security interests to escalate...

We need strong leadership to invest in the newcomers in America, in crafting a workable immigration and employment policy that allows a strong Middle Class to thrive again, collectively, in this country. We have a Constitution that our allies who want to emulate us ought to look at, and consider adopting for themselves.
America is not great because our efforts helped win WWII. We are not great because of our Revolution in 1776 or the racial reckoning that finally came in our own bloody Civil War. We are the greatest nation on the face of the earth because we opened our doors, legally, to the richest and the poorest from other nations, with the caveat that when you come here, you leave a lot of baggage (prejudices, resentments, grievances) behind from afar and work to rebuild your life under the American Constitutional rules, rights and responsibilities and all.
America is not strong because of our military or the weapons on our streets, necessarily. We are strong because the American people prioritize life, peace, and freedom and we are smart enough to protect it instead of spending our resources advancing the darkness of death and destruction. I wish our allies peace, and not to bloody a road themselves to rethink their values, remake their nations, and build themselves anew.
