America > Israel.

It’s an escalation that could result in President Joe Biden becoming more deeply embroiled in the Middle East just as the 2024 campaign season heats up and his campaign pushes to focus on domestic issues.

The potential for wider conflict is growing, officials said, following a series of confrontations in Iraq, Lebanon and Iran over the past several days. Those have convinced some in the administration that the war in Gaza has officially escalated far beyond the strip’s borders — a scenario the U.S. has tried to avoid for months.

The developments are perilous not just for regional security but for Biden’s reelection chances. He entered office with vows to end wars, realized with the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan that removed the U.S. from 20 years of fighting. Biden now ends his first term as the West’s champion for the defense of Ukraine and key enabler of Israel’s retaliation against Hamas.

Why can't we contain Israel?  Like in the Cold War, supply them with just enough weapons to make them understand the United States is the dominant player here.  We supply the weapons.  If the IDF is ill trained on the size of bombs to use, don't send them.

America is getting roped into another conflict in the Middle East to make the world safe for Israel, but the Israelis refuse to confront and contain their own right-wing settlers. America has a presidential election on the horizon, and the American people have no confidence in our current commander in chief.

The neocon globalists --  who never met a war they didn't think needed Americans finanacing -- were pushing warrior DeSantis, then when it became clear the majority of Americans would never embrace his personal brand of hate, and then switched horses thinking Americans might find Nikki Haley (a woman! of immigrant descent! with a military husband!) more palatable.

We don't.

The American people can see the social needs growing on the streets here at home, because we still have an unsecured border two decades after the 2001 terrorist attacks here at home. We have more and more gun violence -- from our police, our students, our mentally ill.  We have no plans to fix this.  People who want treatment, and housing/shelter, are turned away from services at their county agencies.

The pundits doing well want to convince Americans that the economy is good, everything is great. But they do not see the homeless, the undocumented, the non English speakers, the poor, the ill, the need in America today.

It's not the time to try and committ Americans to spend our taxes fighting other people's wars.  We're not on the hook for protecting Israel from the consequences of what they have done to the Palestinians, nor should our people absorb the wrath of the decisions Israel's leaders have made to kill so many children in the name of defending their own.

The sooner we cut Israel loose, and elect politicians that will focus on America, not creating more unconscionable deaths in the world, the better off we all will be.  If that means a changing of the guard at the top in America, so be it.  They've taken enough and failed us too many times.  They are growing old in the tooth, fat in the belly, and with poor eyesight.

The future is coming, and we're not content to continue replicating the mistakes of the past, the way the people currently in power positions might be planning...
