Michelle Goldberg in the NYT for the Win.

Boom

Pro-Israel Democrats want to back a war to remove Hamas from Gaza. But increasingly, it looks as if America is underwriting a war to remove Gazans from Gaza. Experts in international law can debate whether the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza can be classified as genocidal, as South Africa is claiming at the International Court of Justice, or as some lesser type of war crime. But whatever you want to call attempts to “thin out” Gaza’s population — as the Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom described an alleged Netanyahu proposal — the United States is implicated in them.

Columns like this help offset the legacy columnists like David Brooks and Tom Friedman, both of whom have had the temerity to suggest or insinuate in recent columns that innocent Gazans must pay for Hamas terrorism because... Gaza had the chance to build itself into a Dubai after Israel "evacuated".

That's like blaming the freed slaves during Reconstruction for not lifting themselves by their bootstraps in America and making themselves great.  The old Jewish-American geezers don't get it...

As my colleague Thomas Friedman has noted recently, Hamas could have turned Gaza into Dubai — a land of capitalism, growth and opportunity. But Hamas rejects the whole ethos of modern capitalism for a more primitive ethos: Jews die, we dominate.

Their biases are showing. (Brooks was the neo-con pushing the Bush-Cheney wars back in the day whose American-raised Jewish son enlisted in the IDF to fight, not the U.S forces when they were in Iraq.  Why is he still writing for that paper?)
