If Elena Kagan is confirmed, Justice John Paul Stevens’ seat will remain in pretty solidly liberal hands for the next 40 years, if Ms. Kagan remains on the court as long as Justice Stevens has.

I'm going to predict ... with the way she carries her weight, plus the family history (father dead at 67) ... no way does Ms. Kagan make it to 90 years old.

If indeed she was selected over other women because of her young age and the hopes she'll be writing liberal opinions for years to come, then speculating on her health -- her obesity and heart hardiness -- is fair game.

Plus, I hear it can be stressful on the heart, allegedly hiding in a closet like that...
