"I Want More..."

Impossible to ignore...
Impossible to ignore...

Speaking of,
why oh why would anyone officially elect Rahm Emanuel mayor of anything, much less a major U.S. city*, when he's proven his skills lie in the promising -- running the campaigns, corralling the formerly independent 4th Estate (who used to poke around and ask their own questions, and wear down a bit of shoe leather checking out leads, but now apparently are favored with daily calls, keeping them all "on message" ... ) -- and yet he's proven himself a complete failure in the delivering.

Back when I was delivering papers,
they used to every now and then bring in a van of eager young solicitors, who would go door to door signing people up for the paper. God knows what they promised to make the sale -- a missing Saturday paper? "Ma'am, we don't publish on Saturdays."

That was me, approaching the door to collect two weeks later, after they'd been a new subscriber on the route. Can't tell you how many never even agreed to take the paper -- the outside crew who came in needed to get their numbers, and short term, they did, as it took a few weeks of catchup for the company to realize the game playing didn't necessarily equal more customers.

I think Rahm Emanuel would have been mighty, mighty successful -- short term -- in running such a crew. Doesn't mean he's contributed anything longlasting to the team though, in the long run. The sooner we see through the media creation, or calculate the actual value of the tough-guy arm-twisting, the sooner the team as a whole has a shot of winning...

Sit down please, Rahm. You've helped the country enough for one lifetime.

"Only the opportunity to help President Obama as his chief of staff could have pried me away from here," Emanuel said. "And only the opportunity to lead this city could have pried me away from the president's side."

Heh heh heh.
Again, I find myself drying my eyes. Can't these guys just go for it, and pursue the career in stand-up they all seem to be after?

Funny stuff, brother. Funny, funny, funny...

*God forbid "terrorists" should target Chicago, do you trust Mr. Emanuel has the experience -- or the maturity or leadership skills? -- to actually lead anyone through a crisis? or would he be busy collecting footage to aid in his re-election campaign? (never let a good crisis go to waste, when you can benefit personally off it...eh?)
He praised retiring Mayor Richard Daley but also hinted at mistakes the city has made under him.

"We cannot keep putting off hard choices and hoping things will get better, while drawing down each year on rapidly diminishing reserves."
