Plunk ... plunk... plunk

Best fall color season in years possible, DNR says.
We're just seeing random scatterings of the early colors changing, a branch here and there. But oh, the oaks are producing mightily. The kids were slipping and sliding running around on acorns at the city park this weekend.

And when you are out walking, there is that distinctive noise that autumn is in the air as the acorns drop...

Plunk ... plunk... plunk

----------------
ADDED: People say a good crop of healthily sized acorns are an indication of a cold(er than normal) winter ahead...

I say, it's just evidence of an especially succulent summer. But I guess, we'll see...

BONUS: If you were an editor, how might you strengthen this intro paragraph?

Dennis Anderson has been a Star Tribune outdoors columnist since 1993, before which, for 13 years, he held the same position at the Pioneer Press. He enjoys casting and shooting. Dogs, too, and horses. Also kids and, occasionally, crusading in his column for improved conservation.

Hint: is it me, or the way it's written, does it unnecessarily seem to imply he enjoys shooting dogs? Horses too. (They Shoot Horses, Don't They?) Also, kids ?!?

I'm pretty good at the table, but I am a picky reader... No thanks on any acorn soup though.
