Purple Fingers ... Black Fists! Iraq War Comes Home.

First, they tore down the statues of old leaders they didn't like.
Then, they painted their fingers purple, their fists black, and made a big show of electing a new slate of national leaders who would re-define democracy in a world that was holding its breath, sending well wishes...

Performance art pieces.

Minority ethnics and Women! were especially prized. For some new voters, it meant hours-long waits in line in local municipalities that did not have the staff or equipment to keep up with those in the area who wanted to vote.  The voters took pride standing in the heat, raising their painted digits upward as if divine providence had mandated this moment finally for them!

The end was not so pretty.
The slate of candidates voters selected was unable to lead in treacherous times, the candidates were quickly replaced, disorder reigned, and democracy quickly crumbled.  Without a strong sense of power, the people scattered.  Tribal societies formed, much like inner-city American gangs, women and children and elders aligned themselves with whomever they thought might best protect them.  After their money and goods were spent, many of those with resources were disappeared...

The people who trusted in the process looked to the American leaders who had promised them power.  Sadly, after the shock-and-awe phase of the destruction process which the military leaders excelled at, those people were no longer around to answer for their promises.  The people went on, those who survived, and the country itself physically remained, but it was but a shell of the society and peoples who had once populated the land.

In striving for more, in lifting their fingers and fists to the sky with their demands, they forgot to look inward for their salvation and it cost them dearly.  The statues and statutes fell but there was simply nothing left, no leaders or laws remaining with which to replace them.  Civilization regressed, life in tribal society got meaner, but those who trusted in the Lord were spared.  Innocence and beauty remained in those who turned their backs on worldly ways and thanked the Lord daily for the blessings bestowed...
