"We Americans Cannot Be Counted On to Protect You Forever..."
"We will train you, and arm you, but if you want to protect your women and children, you must learn to fight for your own country and not count on indefinite American military support. We will not be around forever..."
On reading neo-cons' account of the failed withdrawal, it seems quite obvious what went wrong: American military leaders and troops assumed they would establish a permanent presence to protect Afghans. "A sustainable force".
The message above was never fully communicated to the Afghans because the American military never understood their military mission was limited. They weren't training those troops to become self sufficient and stand alone. 20 years of promises.... and in just weeks, we see the failures of US military policy.
I pity the Afghan army and those who collaborated with the American military. They believed in the lies the troops told them, it seems, not understanding that in America, wars are decided by Congress, which directly represents the American people.
The American people, as a bipartisan majority, have been itching to end our occupations in the ... War Against Terrorism for more than a decade now. The military got a big head, thinking they --- and the lobbyists and neo-con pundits -- dictated America's foreign policy.
No, the American people decide when we war, not our presidents or any open-ended Congressional declarations. One good thing that will come of all this wasted money and life is that the United States - our New American voters and demographics -- will not be falsely led into any more foreign wars undeclared by Congress, represented by the nation's people, any time soon...
If we want to return another President Trump style leader to the White House -- nttawwt -- just let the Washington lobbyists and minority perpetual-war folk -- continue to agitate for American taxpayers to fund military ventures that are not in our national security intersts...
I honestly do not think Washington DC, nor the American military, yet understands how strongly the American people from both parties, and of all generations, reject the idea that America has a duty tor protect people in foreign countries when we are not solving or eliminating the rapes and murders of hundreds of women and children annually, here in America. These are our own people being accosted by terrorists, street gangs who seek to silence witnesses and rule by force, domination and gun power.
Imagine if we had spent a trillion dollars over the last two decades fighting crime here at home and investing in changing our own educational and cultural policies how much more advanced some regions of our own country might be right now...
Let the American-military-poorly-trained Afghan Army do what they can now, after 20 years, to independently fight for their homeland. Americans want to see the resources wasted by the US military abroad in the past decades re-allocated to fight for, and protect, our own citizens here at home.
Hopefully, Washington is finally listening to us... The people we elect to serve us and represent our regional interests. The media does the country no favors in promoting false narratives, and not understanding the war declaration powers inherent in the Constitution.
The times have changed, really. It's time for our Congressional leaders to get on board with the American people already and take the power back from the US military officials, who have lied to us so many times over the years that we've lost count...
Good on Joe Biden for holding firm despite the minority outcry of protest that America is finally leaving Afghanistan and letting that country determine it's own future, not relying on the US military that long overstayed its mission of fighting terror and instead committed more murders, crimes and atrocities of our own, while we tested our new military weapons on their people -- accused terrorists, wedding parties and all.
