Jonah Goldberg is Doing Written Comedy Now?

Lol... I had to stop reading when he put on his Grandmother bonnet and told us what she should have taught us.  (never met mine, God rest their souls.)

It's an "I want..., I want..., I want..." column about what he wants to see in America in years to come, with no realistic assessment of what is happening to our country now.  Apparently Jonah still sees America as leader of the Free World.  (Maybe nobody tell him?)

Thing about ego columns like this are, he'll likely remain comfortable in his remaining years, and we'll bury him without his "wants" being realized.  His mother Lucianne is aging; his brother is already gone; he has one daughter to support, and his wife works...

Goldberg went into self employment after leaving his last publication.  Like with young Matt Bruenig coming up, the subscription model fuels their "work" now.  (Nobody tell subscribers that the rest of us can read Goldberg's stuff... free!  All you need is click finger really.)

And his work this week dropped a day late, cuz he missed the deadline smoking it up at a special cigar shop in Norridge, Ill. on Friday, and didn't have his work done before he boarded the plane (crammed into steerage and unable to open his laptop.  Lol -- creative excuse, but other passengers flying commercial always seemed to work theirs on the little tray provided when I flew...)

I'm all for legacy media, sure.  It's America, if you can sell your "expertise" based on your experience and connections in DC, more power to ya.  But he's gotta understand the numbers, and the talents, of those coming up...

He's gone the vanity route now, and eventually I suspect the seats on the Sunday morning shows too will be allocated to other voices more active in the arena.  What he wants is not your grandmother's America.  He wants to keep his seat at the table, without acknowledging the competition he's facing.

Keep missing your deadlines and spouting platitudes.  It's the cigars and steak -- and quaffing the finest -- I suspect, that end his "wants" before he sees the America we are going to be in years to come.  They say DC is a drinker's town, but I think that too might pass as the OldGuard is finally shown the door (how long can his mother's generation hold out in power?  The Peolosi's, Cheney's, Biden's will be gone in the next 10 years surely.  Jonah's heart will likely hold out longer than that, but he really can't see even today how his own influence is fading...)

Hope it's otherwise, but like with wars -- these things follow a predictable pattern if you watch the implosions long enough.
