News Story is the LEAK, not the Future Decision
Anybody who has been to law school in the past 50 years, or can reasonably read a law opinion on their own merits* understood the issue would, of course, one day revert to the states. Roe was built upon a shoddy legal foundation (the problem with "penumbras") during a social time when a lot of Baby Boomers were insisting on loosened social mores, and the technology and means to prevent pregnancy had not yet caught up. The Warren Burger Court gifted "abortion rights" to women -- at the cost to men and children in society -- and now the demographics have caught up with the country.
Even the most liberal law professors -- anyone who can read the Constitution -- understand why social decisions regarding the health and safety of the people belong to the people of the States. Did they really think women would retain this unnatural advantage from a sleight of hand in the law... forever?
I find that hard to believe. The chip- chip- chipping away in the conservative states; the political push to dominate the state legislatures courthouses... what did you people think that was all about? Abortion won't become "illegal" everywhere. Some states' voters and legislatures will choose to permit it, some simply will not.
Democracy -- understanding the basics of the Constitution -- is important, it's our lifeline you might say, so that Americans are NOT ruled over by the elites from Harvard and Yale in the black robes. When this Court ruling officially comes to be, don't whine and cry. Celebrate the decision. Then, if you are so inclined, work to persuade like-minded others to choose representatives who will support your political views.
These decisions -- like the choice whether to cull a living organism -- don't belong to SCOTUS or "liberated" women alone; the fathers, families and those who would support the children that would otherwise be unwanted also must have a say in how the society they live in respects life.

*Speaking of, Bret Stephens -- formerly with the Wall Street Journal and the Jerusalem Post -- and Gail Collins -- a feminist from way back -- were conspicuously absent from their weekly written "conversation" yesterday in the NYT...
Do you think they got a wind of what was going to be "leaked" and decided it best not to discuss current issues in print? Or, maybe these are my own fears showing: do you think the "leak" that dropped now from a draft opinion circulated last February was designed to distract our country from the March to War we are undertaking in supporting NATO vs. Russia over in Ukraine? It's all one kettle of fish really. Either we respect life on this planet, or we don't. Choose wisely, America. Choose wisely.
The future is counting on your educating yourself on the Constitutional issues and building a better society we all can live in, the rich the poor and the still in-betweens...
*9th and 10th Amendments: "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." and "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
That's the beating heart of democracy; that means "you and me". Why fear that? It's the ultimate People's choice, really... and most people*, mothers and fathers and family members alike, understand the fragility of life and the need to protect it from Big Government who would callously crush it in the womb, without perhaps a second thought... (*around here, anyway...)
No educated person should be surprised by the Supreme Court's coming decision. We voted for this too.
I suspect a lot of the "shocked" people today will re-consider too the impact of America's open borders, which are bringing a lot of conservative people -- women and men -- in from other cultures where life is more valued than here at home (Africa, Central America, Asia too.) If you want to work to win them over to "your side", not only will you have to assimilate them to American ways, but teach them about civics and how our Constitution works too. Once they can legally vote, and not just toil in our shared society, they will have an equal say in what our society values too.
The gift of this Court ultimately will be in letting go of some of its usurped "leadership" over the past decades, and returning the cultural power of America back over to her people. Empowerment, for real.
