Ay lassie! Ms. Dowd resorts to foreign words to try and make her case...

and fails miserably.  She should let Jack Smith do his job, and not try to do the man's work.  Practicing law without a license is a no-no, Maureen.

Her column today starts out fuzzy, with the Dowd dizzy-isms her writing is known for:

WASHINGTON — The man who tried to overthrow the government he was running was held Thursday by the government he tried to overthrow, a few blocks from where the attempted overthrow took place and a stone’s throw from the White House he yearns to return to, to protect himself from the government he tried to overthrow.  Donald Trump is in the dock for trying to cheat America out of a fair election and body-snatch the true electors. But the arrest of Trump does not arrest the coup.  The fact is, we’re mid-coup, not post-coup. The former president is still in the midst of his diabolical “Who will rid me of this meddlesome democracy?” plot, hoping his dark knights will gallop off to get the job done.

and ends with this:

While Trump goes for the long con, or the long coup — rap sheet be damned, it’s said that he worries this will hurt his legacy. He shouldn’t. His legacy is safe, as the most democracy-destroying, soul-crushing, self-obsessed amadán ever to occupy the Oval. Amadán, that’s Gaelic for a man who grows more foolish every day.

A good editor should know:  this is not her forte. She grew up in DC; her dad was a Capitol cop who passed from heart issues when she was young (she was a late boomer in a pre-war-boom family; her father was too old to serve in DC, I think...)

Maureen is waaay to personally invested to have an honest take on Donald Trump at this point.  Most of the older staff at the New York Times had conflicts of intersest, even the younger ones! (Maggie Haberman's mother worked the Trump PR agency, dating back to father Fred's days)  Nobody is reporting from a neutral place and if you even dared try, you'd likely never keep your job.

Get Trump Get Trump Get Trump Get Trump.  It's all they know, and they are lousing everything up  because they ignore everything that doesn't feed their biases.  Dowd struggles here -- doing Smith's job -- trying to even define the crime, multiple charges of which Smith had craftily crafted to try and score some type of win (almost guaranteed if the trial is held in Democratic DC with so many political jobs on the line...):

“President Trump wanted to get to the truth,” [Trump's attorney John] Lauro told Newmax’s Greg Kelly after the arraignment, adding: “At the end he asked Mr. Pence to pause the voting for 10 days, allow the state legislatures to weigh in, and then they could make a determination to audit or re-audit or recertify.”  In trying to debunk Jack Smith’s obstruction charges, Lauro confirmed them. Trying to halt the congressional certification is the crime.

No Maureen, you don't get threatened with prison time for "asking" your vice president to halt certification.  The BIG DRAMA you all kept hyping was the overthow of the government, the VIOLENT overthow, which was planned by storming the capitol using flagpoles, trash cannisters, bodies, megaphones, shouting and yelling... what some saw as a political protest that got out of hand after a Summer of Firey Riots mostly because the local police were not prepared intitially. But DC got it under control before dark that day:  only one person was shot dead, an unarmed woman; even though several police and protesters later succumbed to suicides and heart attacks after the stress of dramatic day.

No government got overthown. Not even close. Heck, Nancy Pelosi didn't even remove her stillettos in running away to hide, as the cameras her daughter Alexandra was rolling for a documentary that day show.  It was Trumped Up drama to show that the nation should be glad to welcome President Joe Biden and send Trump packing.

Which he did.  I don't remember any officers having to enter the Exective Office and pry Donald from the desk.  Nobdy even charged him until...

Joe Biden and his boy started getting in trouble.  The Afghanistan war pull out.  No way could even the best DC spinners help the country "unsee" that one.  Nor the billions (and billions and billions and billions and billions) being spent to help arm Ukraine so they can attack Russia proper, try to take out Russian ships (military and business transport).

Some Americans -- like those in Wisconsin -- like near the former Badger Ammo Works.  Oof, read up on the environmental costs of war, even in victory.  No way do the people of the future want to continue with American war-mongering ways, even if that's the primary way DC makes their money today:  "Defense" industries.

Go away, Maureen already.  Move to Hollywood and be happy?  You don't have a legal degree, you've never set foot outside DC or New York or Cali, so far as we can tell.  You don't get to decide who the "baddies" are, while worshipping your Kennedy myths and keeping all women who don't play the game the way you do down.

We want facts and the truth, not closing prose from somebody who really doesn't know what a crime is, political or otherwise, but is determined to use the justice department to punish the leaders she doesn't like so that more wars can be fought to make her region rich.

It's gonna be ugly, you might "win" again, but be careful at what cost.  You're destroying the planet to "win" and you really don't even have all that many decades left to enjoy it.  Why not let the Future decide how we're gonna live and stop supporting people like the Bidens?  Do it for baby Navy, Maureen.  Help send Grandpa Joe home to spend time with her?  Pull a heartstring or two, Maureen, and leave the legal analysis to the educated persons who know what is happening here and want the best for the country as a whole?
