Gail Collins: Simone Biles (a girl) for Gov!

It could be a two-fer (an elected official out, America's sweeheart in!

Sexual harassment can happen almost anywhere, but to control it, it generally helps to have both genders in the power structure. State legislatures have always had exceptional trouble in part because the sexual balance of power is so askew.

Things have improved, but still, fewer than a third of the nation’s 7,383 state legislators are women. Only eight states have women governors. New York is one of the many that’s never had a female chief executive. If Cuomo quits or is removed from office, we’ll have one in Kathy Hochul, the lieutenant governor. Historically, that’s the job parties use to get a girl on the ticket. And to most New Yorkers, her duties seemed mainly to involve standing behind the governor and applauding supportively.

Nevermind a white Kathy.
Simone is young, black and beloved.  If you're going to dump Cuomo for sexual abuse, put an abused sexual survivor in office to replace him.  Simone checks all the boxes.  You go New York girls!  (I hear it will be rather easy for Simone to establish residency there...)

A win is a win is a win?, as Gertrude Stein noted, way back in 1913.  I guess in Gail's girls' class, this is as close as they're going to get -- filling out the remainder of a man's term in a man's job in a man's capital.  It's a man's world, baby?, they just let you collect victim reparations every now and then when the white men and women in power are feeling generous...

No thanks.  That's not winning, collecting alleged victim-abuse trophies like that...  Shame on those who would trade on alleged victims to grow their own stories and careers.  Still, if it must be done, make it a Gov. Simone so there's a happy ending until the governor's term ends and another man can be rightfully elected pver the lady chosen to keep his seat warm.
