"We Only Caved on the IRS Funding..."
Lol. The wealthy Ivy League libs are out in force today in the NYT basking in their triump of the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling deal that keeps the system stagnating, and the artificial losers at the top who win even though they do less work than America's workers...
Matt Yglesias:
The one real concession Mr. McCarthy won from Mr. Biden is to scale back planned increases in I.R.S. funding, a change that the Congressional Budget Office says will lead to more debt rather than less (presumably by letting people cheat on their taxes more). On the merits, for a deficit- and debt-reducation package, this is absurd. But the G.O.P. heart wants what it wants, and to get a deal, Mr. Biden quietly worked with Republicans’ real desires rather than trying to subject them to ridicule in public.
----------------
* Plenty of wealthy liberals won there too, as they don't want the IRS looking closely at their returns, and examining their deductions, writeoffs and lack of support for the ideas they promote, but do not want to personally finance...
You can kick the can down the road, Mr. Yglesias, but unless you think you'll be running and competing just as strongly in that game in years to come as you can now, you are just robbing the Future and putting off the needed Changes in society that your mouths promise, but your wallets don't see fit to fund.
Enjoy your win. Don't get to fat on your victory. Best keep your kids on their feet in case the artificial advantages that have you where you are today aren't available to them and they only take out what they themselves contribute. America is changing like that. Wait and see.
ADDED: Clueless they are:
Even with his approval rating sagging, Mr. Biden does not inspire the kind of fervent hatred that motivated opponents of powerful communicators like Mr. Trump or Mr. Obama a quietly significant advantage in a polarized age.
"Let's Go Brandon..." died out because it got old, and people thought it boorish, not because "the fervent hatred" went silent. Just because you don't hear what is happening does not mean nothing is happening.
That's the problem with counseling silence and then thinking your team is "winning" because the media loudmouths are all libs today. (and working in collusion perhaps as in the days of the late Journolist, to push the Biden re-election meme in any way they can...)
I don't think this country is going to re-elect Joe Biden in 2024, or that he will even necessarily be the Democratic nominee. In a horse race, that election is a long way away, and the bodies of the horses really can't be evaluated today for how they will finish so far out in the future.
Best just to cover the issues on the ground that matter to the American people -- -- and keep your fingers crossed if your journalistic career relies on D's being in power. I don't think these sheltered people have a clue about what is coming in this country...
* the war billions being transferred abroad; the failed immigration policies: hundreds of thousands of new residents with needs; the coming failure of worker social-safety-net programs like Social Security and Medicare...
Some grabbed all, but you can't deny the country has greater needs as a whole than ever before. The IRS "win" pretty much insures that we will not have the wealthy liberal taxpayers stepping up any time soon to fund their pet projects, and yet they continue to make promises to the American people and all those coming in for work.
