or, Helping Amanda Understand Checks and Balances

Amanda said...
Liberals got what they wanted through an election, conservatives didn't have enough votes to get their candidate in. Obama won, he is the President, constitutionally he gets to nominate a SC Justice, or even appoint, through a recess appointment. It's clear that conservatives wish to thwart the Constitution and do not consider that there were TWO elections in which the people chose what they wanted. Why is it important to delay hearings for President Obama's nominee? Because conservatives do not respect the process or the Constitution.

You're conveniently forgetting there is nothing in the Constitution that says the Senate has to confirm Obama's nominee. They get to confirm, or reject him. They don't even have to schedule a vote if they don't like.

Why Amanda?
Because they are ELECTED Senators too.
It's called balance, baby. The Dems control the nomination, the Republicans control the confirmation, in this case.

If Obama wanted his nominee actually confirmed, he would have helped win a majority in the Senate, or at least tried to work with the politicians there.

But he was so busy boasting about how he won and all, and that was enough, that he took his clubs and went golfing and didn't bother developing any mutual relationships.

It's come back to bite the country in the butt, and himself too.
He Won all right, but the country lost big time. And now, the Senate will cap his winnings, and tell him to hit the links.

Let the next President nominate the justice who will eventually be confirmed. Obama was content to just run out the clock on his term, and REpublicans will now likewise do the same.

Here's to happy travels in the future, Obama family.
Nevermind your legacy: that's being written already...

ADDED:  I don't think the Congress is going to recess this year... not the Senators anyway.  Nobody wants Obama slipping one in, in the bottom of he ninth with his team down on the count...

ADDED:  Here's the list of "diversity" candidates* the NYT is pushing Obama to select...

Somehow, I don't think the country cares much about race, ethnicity or gender anymore after the Obamacare mandate ruling.  Keep the blindfolds on, Lady Justice.  Chief Justice Roberts has proven himself to be a switch hitter, when it's convenient for him.  Scalia, bless his heart, never played that way unless you consider his role in Bush v. Gore...

 * What?!?  No Ta-Nehisi Coates on that list???
White elites always overlooking the black man's genius and working to keep him down.

What you got against geniuses of color anyway, and why you be discriminating against the black man in favor of the Hindi or white ladies?  Bigots.
