Kinda Makes You Wonder Too...
Masahiro Tanaka Hospitalized After Being Hit by Line Drive
The Yankees starting pitcher was struck during live batting practice in the team’s first summer workout on Saturday.
I like sports as much as the next, but the wisest thing -- if you weren't so concerned with making money, or not losing money -- off of so many black athletes' bodies, might have been to let the whole season go, without bringing anybody together, and just forgo the profit this year.
ADDED: I've already expressed my concerns re. people gathering, in the black communities especially, and everyone at sports bars', that it's not so much a concern for the athletes really, but for fans who will likely congregate closely to cheer on the home teams, risking bringing back the virus to the elderly and vulnerable in their home communities.
You can't cancel for the black fans because the whites are demanding, "Here We Are Now! Entertain US!" Also, put me down that the idea of mixing sports and social messages in the games, on the courts and the uniforms -- with pre-approved messaging! -- is just plain wrong. Sports, if you're gonna have the games, should be a sanctuary from the social advocacy; Do that outside the workplace; owners who are into appeasing today are likely going to look bad when they eventually pull the non-neutral messaging and try to return to business. And they will, of course, eventually pull the messaging. Campaigns don't last, or have an impact, as much as true spontaneous calls for justice, not sponsored by millionaires owners. (What, no "Free Hong Kong" messages allowed?? ;-)
