Cold and Wet in Minneapolis Today, but...
the weekend is supposed to be warmer.
Will be interesting to see if BLM still has the power to put protestors on the streets raging against this decision not to charge the officer who shot Amir Locke in a no-knock raid. His parents -- his mother especially, I remember -- do not seem the types to accept this decision without protest...
I think the way the Kim Potter jurors voted, and after what was exposed under George Floyd -- not to mention Mayor Frey's earlier promise to end no-knock warrants -- a lot of people will want to see a jury decide the policeman's guilt, even if Amir Locke had a gun in his hand when shot...
Was it pointed at any officer? Did they warn him to drop it before they shot him?
It's just better that these decisions be made by a jury, I think, because there's this idea now that if police make mistakes on the job, they can be held accountable by the public. It would be like if a surgeon made a mistake on the job that took a life -- he was following proper procedures but someone died at his hands -- after Kim Potter's manslaughter conviction, people think they're always going to see those charges now...
Curious to see what tonight's turnout in front of the Government Center will be, or if there is any organized marching in the streets this weekend, or if those days have indeed passed in Minneapolis now, and the anti-police perspectives are being reined in.
I'm betting on protests myself. It's springtime, and a lot of people I suspect are ready to come out and make some noise. Hopefully not shut down traffic though. (Last weekend, the NCAA Final Four for women was in town. Bet they held off announcing this decision for another week for that reason alone.)
