Autumn Love in the In Box...

Happy Fall Y'all !

Sunday, September 24

One morning a husband returns to the cabin after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out, since it is such a beautiful day. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says," Good morning, Ma'am, what are you doing"?

"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious"?)

"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.

"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. I'll have to write you up a ticket."

"For reading a book"? she replies.

"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her again.

"But officer, I'm not fishing, I'm reading."

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to write you up a ticket and you'll have to pay a fine."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.

"But I haven't even touched you," says the Game Warden.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."

"Have a nice day ma'am," and he immediately departed.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think

Final:  37-34 Cats.  Northwestern piled on 21 points to tie the game in regulation, and won in OT.  How you like them apples? *wink*

Picking the Upset, Here in the Heartland...

Noah Poser: Northwestern 21, Minnesota 19

Call it a gut feeling, but this is a game where the betting line seems unusually large. On paper, it’s clear that Minnesota has a major advantage in the run game, both offensively and defensively, but these teams are pretty even everywhere else. All of the outside factors, including the atmosphere, should benefit the Wildcats. Students are back on campus. It’s a night game. And this is the Big Ten West after all, where nothing goes as it should. In all seriousness, the game plan for Northwestern is simple. Force the Golden Gophers to have to pass the ball. They have the worst quarterback play in the Big Ten. Northwestern hasn’t shown the capacity to do that yet this season, but call me crazy, I think they pull it off this weekend.

Menendez Indited for Taking Bribes and Selling Out His Country

This man, not Donald Trump, is the bigger "danger" to our country. Politicians, and lobbyists, that make money keeping other nations happy with our taxpayer billions will not fare well in the coming decade.

Not everybody is dirty like that, and more people are paying attention to who is -- who uses their connections to sell out others. That's now how we do business here.  We build, not sell out...

America is so much more than a nation of realtors or financiers or middlemen, or legacy sons, who take money to grease the skids and let "outsiders" in, if they join our trade associations and pony up.  That's not working, that's selling out.

Think, because the Voters sure are.  The less media is willing to proactively report on these crimes, the more despised they too become.  We know what is going on in Congress today, and what passes as ethics on the East Coast and in the Ivies.  The American people are rejecting that.   You heard it hear first?

Gold Bullion and Halal Meat: Inside the Menendez Investigation

Federal prosecutors accused Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey and his wife, Nadine, of accepting bribes in exchange for official actions.

For Egypt, Menendez Was Key to Access to Billions in U.S. Aid

When the annual allotment of up to $1.3 billion faltered even a sliver, Egypt found an ally in Senator Robert J. Menendez, who on Friday was indicted on bribery charges tied to Egypt.

Esther 4:14-15

“Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai:

“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

An Imagined Conversation as Abraham Looks On

"Listen, while you're in town, you gotta meet my son Hunter. God luv 'em, he's a good boy. Now don't you worry about this coming storm here at home." *Abe Lincoln watches over the whispers* "We got the good people on our side. Well protected, in need of real workers -- those w/no voice at all, passive and just glad to be here..."  "You leave Congress to me. It's a creaky old boat, run on tradition and seniority, and God knows, I did my time. Oh, I still had a life -- like you, love how you get around in wartime man and come out without a scratch. My old friend John could have learned a trick or two about war service like that... heh heh.  I had the family back home, all the luxuries Nancy enjoyed on the West Coast -- the fine meals, homes, cars, best of everything... and the people loved me because anytime I got in trouble, well... I have a long-dead wife and baby girl in my pocket here, see? You'd be amazed how many of us in the Congress Club have a sad back story like that, a dead father in WWII, an immigrant sponsored-mentorship in, for the good-looking ones anyway.... heh."   "But anyway, we gotta hook you up with my boy Hunter. He's hurting, in a DC-kinda way, they'll never really touch him and we both know it but we can't say it in the press... looks like we're on a different tier of justice while the colored boys serve out years for drug and gun crimes they didn't even commit some of em!  A cousin, looked like somebody's cousin... you know how it goes?... No, no you don't, and I'm rambling again... just stop by.  Jill and Ashley want to meet you, and ... have I told you about my boy?  They like him in Ukraine, all his business friends..."

If You Reward Them with Work, They Will Come...

Damned New Yorkers.  Want to import more underpaid, unregulated (they do not speak English nor have any citizen-worker rights!) wage slaves because they can't make a meal at home, and restaurants need help.  Shame on the North for breaking people and pretending it's not out of their own inability to pay full freight for their luxuries.  #ModernDaySlavery #WorkersWithoutRights

Not in the America I Know... The Elites Should Not Accept Nor Vote for this Type of Default Immigration Policy

It's morally wrong.  We are so much better than this as a nation. If you would not treat your own children as wage slaves, why do you permit this for other people's children?  Looking at you, Joe Biden and the Democrats currently in power?  (We need to stop letting children cross the border if they have to break labor laws to live here.  We have child-worker regulations in America for a reason.  For ALL children.)

Don't people understand?  It's not bigotry to try and protect the children of immigrants. It's humane.  I am one, and I am speaking out... this is wrong.  We cannot be all-welcoming, then look away when our own laws and regulations are broken to permit families to "survive" on the backs of their children:

Get Ready to Welcome Poor but Politically Connected Moroccan Refugees to an American City Near You in 3-2-1.

Powerful Earthquake

Shakes Morocco, Killing

More Than 2,000

  • The quake, centered in the mountains outside of
  • Marrakesh, was the strongest to hit the area in a century.

Unfinished Business.

Of Course Donald Trump and Joe Biden eventually will be expected to debate, as both will soon be the nominees for their party's choice for president.  No way would a DeSantis, or even a Haley, try and put themselves forth as a nominee when the people in their party clearly prefer Donald Trump in a 2020 rematch election.

How could Joe Biden weasel out of a debate?

The American people expect to elect a president strong enough to debate on the important issues facing America today and in the future:  Immigration, Undeclared "Proxy" Wars, Immigration, Immigration, Immigration...  (the latter subject embodying the costs of assimilation, housing, education, and "absorbing" so many newcomers -- including especially women and children in need, most of whom do not speak English and have more needs socially than working-age men, who can -- and have -- better fared for themselves in a hard environment where basic needs often go unmet.

If Joe Biden cannot perform verbally, and impress people with his answers, accountability and plans to talk about:  how long will we fund the Ukrainians to attack Russia;  what happens if there is no "forward progress" in regaining their home lands soon;  where will the money come from to keep prolonging civil wars in the world, while playing world's policeman on our American taxpayer dime...

as well as the issues of immigration and lack of shelter/education/community centers/police and fire department/ churches to shelter and absorb the HUGE influx of refugees needing help yesterday in our nation... then I predict (shall I draw you a pretty chart/graph and pretend to be a professional pollster?) that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will not be re-elected.

I also sorely doubt the "intellectual class" of university professors and lawyers seemingly pushing to keep Donald Trump off the ballot because of (not even legally charged) alleged crimes of "insurrection" will be wise to ... stand down.

The power belongs to the People.  In more and more cities, and urban areas, more and more voters are distrustful of the Democratic Party throwing money at problems and expecting solutions.  Whether it be in wars or here at home.  That appears to be the only tool in their toolbox:  using money to buy "fixes".

In the privacy of the voting booth, I think the anti-Trump coaltion is way overstated.  I think people know America needs Change (we needed it back in the Bush-Cheney war days, and even did the seemingly impossibly of putting all our hope chips on a young charismatic Black candidate who promised such, but in the end, he too was captured by the ways of his party and proved as ineffective as his primary opponent likely would have been had she taken office at that time.

The people WILL decide this next election:  not the propagandists or media advocates; not the pollsters or the professors; not the party leaders who picked Joe Biden as their primary man just three and a half short years ago in the backrooms of South Carolina...

Give the people what they want:  new people in power in DC who will make Change one way or another, pretty and smooth or not, but REAL just the same.  You cannot hold back the Future forever, no matter who you might pay off to buy into that myth.

Congress had a job to do, and it's been neglected for DECADES while our Congresspeople get rich off of inaction.  The Constitutution tells us how the powers are allocated, and damned if it's not an excellent system overall to keep a country functioning, even as the money has corrupted our principles and we've ignored the basic setups, of declaring war, securing our borders and providing for OUR national defense.

God Bless America, and God Bless Us everyone.  And for those non-believers, keep believing in progress and  advancement via science.  Keep believing in Nature, who often has the last laugh.  Believe in consequences for actions, believe in lawful ways, believe in the good in others, and believe in the Future.  If not you, who?  If not now, when?  #LifeMatters #DemocracyIsNotInDanger #CHANGEisGonnaCome...

You can never "perfect" writing...

Us grownups had to think deeply and come up with honest answers to stuff we dont often think about. Like this one: what hobby do you wish you'd take up?

It's easy to come up with ones you're already trying to perfect. For me, that would be writing, photography, growing flowers, getting more fluent in French.

Even if they tried, the greats would understand this an impossible task.  It is, however, possible to correct writing, if those learning are willing to take honest correction without their egos being hurt.  This writer was a professor of mine, whose first language as a child in post-war Poland, was not English. I remember when she and I first began blogging -- not together -- and I read and wrote to her of a minor English fallacy she was making (a homophonic word, used in the wrong context, iirc).*

Here, it's simple to read -- and here -- the error.  "Us adults" should be "we adults".  (Drop the "extra" words and strip a sentence bare to appreciate the simplicity in fuction).  You'd never say "us had to think deeply...", for example.

Clearly the proper pronoun is "we".  = "We had to think..."

It's a common error in English, but it hurts the ears and makes one appear ignorant of the proper way of speaking, and writing.  I reached out to explain, thinking of one of my teachers (who once was a nun who left her religious order to teach at a public junior high in a working-class town) taught us the beauty of sentence diagramming.

Like with those renovating old homes, strip your sentences down to the basics and build up:  add on, but makes sure the words and parts of speech support the others.  If you do it write, you can indeed perfect a hobby, maybe turn it into a career (it has nothing to do with "connections";  who married who; whose child is in the market for a job or "career" and can benefit from the connections, or injustices, at work their parent faced back in the day...).

What hurts my heart is that people some people cannot take correction from "lessers."  They honestly believe that their position insulates them from criticism.  "I am the Boss Guy (or gal) thus MyWayGoes. Even if it's structually incorrect, and will lead to errors, or confusion or accepatance of "imperfection" because it soothes a hardened ego that thinks life must be all taking of lumps, and giving them back as good as you got it...

Might Doesn't Make Right though, not in wars and not in learned professions.  We adults need to acknowledge that, put in places of leadership and responsibility those who love their craft inside and out, and are willing to sacrifice to make it beautiful but most importantly, structurally sound.

Journalism today has had practitions compromising the craft, too.  Ezra Klein formed a (self titled) cabal, once upon a time, wherein he collected a lot of WhiteMen, most young and a few gals included here and there (one became his wife, iirc).  That effort at collaboration at the Dawn of the Digital Age of newspapering has clearly led to the "advocacy writing" (there really isn't much independent "reporting" going on in many "newsrooms" today) we see in so many publications.

It's hard to tell the truth, when you're pulling for this side or that. (mostly, "elect Joe Biden again!" we see in so many domestic political pieces today.  Men like Frank Bruni (now at j-school professor at Duke, who also used his congeniality and connections to rise from a food writer to an opiner at the NYT when out gay writers were scarce) might know more about marinading and masticating than politics, but he knew who he needed to know to make a writing career from his bloated prose, and ever lesser political knowledge.

Men like Jamelle Bouie have to invest in educating themselves about history and politics to present as credible writers:  their work stands or falls on its own, because they are not WhiteMen who can get away with presenting ill-thought out opinions as nationally worthy reads. (It's the old saw about how everybody has an asshole, like they have a quick-take political opinion to share...)

Until we in America strip our professional class back to the basics -- in education, journalism, medicine, science and the arts -- we are going to continue building a class of ill-trained warriors not pursing excellence in all their works (and falling short, as we MereMortalMen are wont to do in our efforts).

This I know.

-----------------

* I recall this, because on the first instance she was kind and accepting, but when I noticed she missed other references of the same word and pointed out the line and sentence and told her to go back and fix those as well, she asked me how my studying for an upcoming test was coming.  She pulled rank!

It hurt, because I meant well and thought I was helping, honestly.  Some people don't like to be ... "topped from the bottom" I have sorely learned in life.  Doesn't stop from being me, and knowing what I know, but oh, how the egos are hurt when an alleged "lesser" demonstrates mere competency, or calls others out, not understanding how those with superior statuses rely heavily on their place in the pecking order...

The best teachers indeed learn from their students, or listen to those who simply know more about a subject and are willing to share. Never ever look down on somebody you think is inferior, but who can teach you a better way, whether it be a mechanic or a poor wordsmith... #Life advice 101.

Send Money, Money, Money...

the shit has hit the fan!

A year later, the migrant waves he helped set in motion have put northern “sanctuary” cities increasingly on edge, their budgets stretched, their communities strained. And a border crisis that has animated Republican politics for years is now dividing the Democratic Party. Humanitarian impulses are crashing into desperate resource constraints and once-loyal Democratic allies have reluctantly joined Republicans to train their fire on President Biden.

Happy day-after-Labor Day! It's the best day for childless adults too.  All the aggressive mothers (and grands!) raising kids are now back in the school drop-off/pick-up lines, competing in their SUVs to be first~!  (and with the kids back locked up, you see fewer in public places standing on benches where other people sit, or with diaper-butts on tables.)  Enjoy your school year.  See you all again next June!

* I remember back in the day, when having your parents do your homework was not something to brag about... lol.  Whatever. Anything to give junior a leg up, I guess. Sad that so many adults have children just to live through them, or suck up their experiences as their own.  Those kids pretty much need lifelong help getting their jobs done, you know...

Best let them do their work themselves, don't you think?

Also, I know the answer to this one! (Americans have realized that MORE healthcare is not necessarily better.  Unneeded procedures and probes -- even if "free" aren't necessarily good for you, and in some cases, can put you in an early grave... "Maintain, maintain, maintain".  Isn't that the key to good health, really, and stable structures too?)

A Huge Threat to the U.S. Budget Has Receded. No One Is Sure Why.

Instead of growing and growing, as it always had, spending per Medicare beneficiary has nearly leveled off over more than a decade.

American 2023

Blech. Fear factor anyone? This ain't evolution, friends. This is regression...

What a dumb asshole! *=didn't even stick around to watch them burn TheMan

I guess he doesn't meet enough chicks on campus?

Neal Katyal, a 53-year-old law professor from Chicago and former acting U.S. solicitor general, said he experienced a “harrowing” six-mile journey when leaving the festival. He said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he walked through “heavy and slippery mud” but got out safely.

=didn't even stick around to watch them burn TheMan

I hope the public illnesses can be contained.

You hate to see people travel, mingle, and then return to schools, say.  Sounds like a super-spreader even to me, and I'm not talking Covid, just sick bodies packed into to unhygenic, unsafe conditions.  Sounds... ripe for illness... Glad I'm not living in a metro w/a lot of "travellers".

Festival attendees remained unable to exit festival grounds Sunday as more rain and wind washed through Black Rock City, Nev., leaving celebrators stuck in glue-like muddy conditions and with plenty of questions about what to do next.

By their Fruit, we shall know them

 Matthew 21-31/32:

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the sex workers are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the sex workers did.

God help those who still think they can kill their way into His Kingdom, under the guise of "protecting woman and children".

------------

ADDED:  John taught the basic principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He taught the people about justice, mercy, honesty, morality, fasting, prayer, repentance and confession of sins, baptism by immersion, resurrection, and the Judgment (see Matthew 3; Luke 3).

Still more:  (Selection from Matthew 3)

John taught in the Wilderness:

11 “I baptize you with[b] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Selection from Luke 3: Don't be afraid, friends... Pray for time for yourselves.  Live and learn, and do as He tells you (do NOT pay heed to false prophets who abuse his words for personal gain!):

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

Men like David Brooks and David French and Ross Douthat?  They don't meet this test.  One is a former soldier who still defends the violence done not only to other men, but innocent children (=the fruits of his actions), and the two others are too clever by half.  They are not halving and sharing their possessions, they are still pretending to be "professional" christian men who know all the answers, and are profitting mightily by their arrogant sins.  God have Mercy.

(The sons of Abraham who hired them?  Keep educating yourselves.  Listen to Others, who also interpret the Gospels in these days of inequity, injustice, inequality, and hardships to so many.  Be ready to recognize that not all sheep come dressed in fine clothing, with many family members, who purport to know the way for the women and children -- and other men -- in our diverse country.  Yes, permit Christian voices in your secular publican, but... listen harder and think about what you are promoting.  It's not Jesus' work these WhiteMaleChristian columnists are doing, but a perversion of the Gospel Christ preached... Know that.))
